Here we are well into the month of January, Many have made those fabled New Year's resolutions. Did you make one? If so, how's it coming? Are you still on track, and making progress? A New Year's resolution is pretty much just like any goal, it just coincides with the new year, heralding a new beginning... out with the old and in with the new. When it comes to any goal here are some simple steps you can take to increase your success: Decide & Intend you goal. Think about exactly what it is you want, how it will look, how you will feel when you achieve it, what it's execution will mean for you. Once you have a good grasp of what you want make a deliberate decision to take action on it. Write it down. Capture exactly what you want on paper. If you journal, write out a short headline in the journal of the goal along with 2 -3 sentences about the specifics of it. Then compound the effect by writing the goal's short title again on note cards (or even better) sticky notes and post them where you can see them. If you do not journal, just write the goal itself out on the sticky notes. Publish it. Thats a fancy way of saying tell someone. Tell your friend, a family member, a coworker, a peer, Tell one person or a bunch of people, make a blog post or put it on Facebook. Just make it known to others. All of these steps send out the signal of how serious you are and only help to affirm your outcomes. Of course, if you need an additional boost, your local hypnotist can help maximize the power of your intent by helping you harness your subconscious mind. Mark your calendar - January 4th is recognized throughout the world as the day we give our attention and appreciation to the art of hypnosis. As I review 2015, I am so happy for and proud of my clients and the changes they have brought about through hypnosis. During the past year I have had the pleasure of helping clients: lose weight, stop smoking, stop nail biting, stop hair pulling, increase confidence, improve academic performance, and more. I'm looking forward to 2016 and helping even more clients bring out their best, helping other hypnotists through our new NHG Chapter build community and expertise, and conducting new small group workshops that allow customers to explore hypnosis. The new year will be here before you know it. Are you looking forward to bringing old habits into the new year? Are you wanting to continue with the same story line, the same behaviors that don't serve you? Does the thought of continuing to let your weight, smoking, or stress control you in the new year sound appealing? Probably not. Why not start the new year off right - make a commitment for change.
Just now putting the finishing touches on my plan of events for a new series of small group weight loss and smoking cessation workshops that will start up in the new year. These groups will give folks that are new to hypnosis a way to check it out, at a lower cost, and with a small group of people that have the same interests. There will a weight loss group with a morning session and an afternoon session on one day of the weekend, and a smoking cessation group, again with a morning and afternoon session on the other weekend day. These workshops are two hours long and packed with lots of great information including, of course, hypnosis. Check the baltimoremarylandhypnosis.com website often for updates, details, and special offers. Baltimore Maryland Hypnosis is excited to announce that the National Guild of Hypnotists has authorized BMH to stand up the Baltimore City Chapter of the National Guild of Hypnotists. In order to get information out to folks in a timely fashion, a new "NGH CHAPTER" page has been added to our website. You can also opt in to our email list and be notified of future events. Please email me suggestions or topics you would like to see covered in future meetings. Do you really want to bring cigarettes into 2016? Isn't it time to stop? Now, lets be clear here, I am not a dentist, nor do I practice dental hypnosis, but I have talked to and interviewed patients that have undergone dental hypnosis and quite simply... it works. Hypnosis has helped dental patients overcome dental phobias and tolerate procedures without anesthesia. If you or someone you love could benefit from dental hypnosis, I would recommend looking into - it is a viable alternative. We did it last year and the year before, and we survived, and here we are now, going into Thanksgiving 2015 - and we know we'll do the same thing. So I have come up with a strategy for you that may help reduce the food and alcohol intake we all can often abuse on this important occasion. Water is your friend. So use it throughout the day to try and keep your stomach filled. Imm not talking about drinking so much that you are uncomfortable, but drinking a good 8 - 10 large (16 ounce) glasses of water throughout the day will help keep you hydrated and also keep some volume in your stomach. Do you have any holiday strategies that you use to help control overeating? Tell us. Please share your thoughts here in the comments below. It's that time of year again... it actually starts with Halloween. Thats when everyone starts putting out treats around the office, places like Starbucks and grocery stores start making lovely and enticing cookies and treats. People want to show goodwill by baking and gifting treats to those they care about. It's a hard time of year if you are trying to stay in shape. Hypnosis can help you stay in control by changing your mindset, and reducing your craving for all the holiday excess. You can get through the holidays - but you need a strategy. And it starts now. Give yourself the advantage this year by starting a preemptive holiday effort to keep you in control. Do you already have a strategy in place for managing your holiday meals? If so please share it here, in the comments area below, I'd love to hear what works for you. James Esdaile (1808 - 1859) was a Scottish medical doctor that was stationed in Hoogly, India with the British East India Company during the 19th Century. While there, he performed over 300 major surgical operations including amputations using hypnotic techniques. Not only was he renown for painless surgeries, but his post-operative work helped reduced shock among his patients and improved recovery rates. His work came to the attention of British-Indian authorities that convened a panel of seven officials to investigate the wide-spread claims of Esdaile's painless surgeries. The investigators validated the claims and Esdaile went on to practice his form of hypnotic medical arts at a hospital in Calcutta. Esdaile's work is critical to modern hypnosis as it laid the ground work for hypnotic processes in contemporary medical procedures. Today, thousands of patients that cannot tolerate anesthesia and many mothers who prefer to deliver their children naturally are able to take advantage of medical hypnosis as an alternative to narcotics. You can learn more about Dr. Esdaile's interesting career here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Esdaile. Recently I had the honor to train with my mentor Jason Linett of VirginaHypnosis.com and Larry & Cheryl Elman of the Dave Elman Hypnosis Institute in Henderson, North Carolina. The course was a special Master Hypnotist course designed to emphasize the best practices of the legendary Dave Elman. Special consideration was given to his famous Elman Induction. The course was well attended by many professional hypnotists, clinicians and psychologists from around the country. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to train with top-shelf experts in hypnosis profession and I was grateful to be a part of it. Webster's dictionary describes it incorrectly as an artificially induced sleep, but is actually a natural state of mind and induced normally in everyday living much more often than it is induced artificially. Every time we become engrossed in a novel or a motion picture, we are in a natural hypnotic trance. From Charles Tebbetts' Miracles on Demand. pp. 211 - 212 One of the biggest complaints of my clients is night time eating, especially sweets. Its easy to understand why we get into the habit int he first place. Our society incorporates a sweets at the end of a meal. Plus many of us work really hard, and only at the end of the day do we have time to relax. It's then that we reward ourselves. From there, it becomes easier and easier to snack a little more. Before you know it, you are eating two, three, or four sweet things in one sitting. All of this sugar is going into your system at the worst time of day when you are the least active and close to going to sleep. It will not take long for your body to start showing signs of too much sweets. If you want to overcome this habit, you 'll need to set in place pattern disrupters, use something to replace the sweets, and be absolutely committed to change. Hypnosis can be used to help defeat this unhealthy behavior as well. Over the years, I have helped many clients reset their sweet tooth. Are you ready to take back control of your life - if so email me today and lets talk about how hypnosis can help you. This is important so I want to say this first when it comes to hypnosis. Make sure the hypnotist you are working with is certified by the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH). The world's largest and most prestigious organization for the art of hypnosis. The NGH embraces a robust 'client-centered' code of ethics and endorses the latest and most effective techniques for helping clients change. Always look for the NGH seal, and ask your hypnotist about their training and qualifications. |
